ANGÁ Capoeira at Roda Movements

At Roda Movements, we offer Capoeira  instruction for kids and adults using the techniques and methodologies of the group ANGÁ Capoeira (Mestre Maxuel). Maxuel trained over 30 yrs with Mestre Railson from  Capoeira Sul da Bahia group in Bahia Brazil then in 2017 created his own group “ANGA Capoeira International”, today ANGÁ Capoeira is in over 9 countries with over 2000 students.

ANGA Capoeira Maryland has flourished in the Washington, DC area for the past thirteen years  under the instruction of  Professor Hakim (Roberto Tapia). Through this class, students will focus on learning basic and advanced corporal techniques,  Students will also learn the music and rhythms necessary for Capoeira through instruction in songs and instruments such as the drums, Berimbau and tambourine.

About our team:


Professor Hakim, a.k.a. Roberto Tapia, began teaching capoeira in 1999 in Santiago Chile. Upon arriving in the United States in 2005, he began teaching in different gyms around the DMV (DC,Maryland,Virginia).In April 2008 Roberto Tapia opened his own studio Roda Movements in Takoma Park, MD, dedicating himself full-time to nurturing the studio as a place in which the community can learn and enjoy different styles of martial and movement arts, fitness and dance. He began teaching capoeira for various after-school programs around the Washington, D.C., area, as well as performing for numerous cultural events. In June 2011, he organized a highly successful Brazilian festival in downtown Silver Spring showcasing the various rhythms and movements styles of Brazil. An American citizen since 2016. In 2018 he achieved the title of “Professor Formado of Capoeira” from his Mestre Maxuel from his Capoeira group ANGA Capoeira.


Instructor Ali (Dende)] Ali began his education in Capoeira with Professor Hakim (Roberto Tapia). His years under Roberto have involved a well-rounded training that incorporates development of not only skills in doing kicks and floreios (tricks), but also, learning the history and playing key instruments to capoeira such as the berimbau, atabaque, and pandero.


Instructor  Amado First experienced capoeira while visiting Brasilia, and Planaltina Brazil in 2009.Began training in Cotonou Benin West Africa with Grupo Ogun Eru; participates in capoeira events and maintains good connections with the group till this day.Started training with Capoeira Sul Da Bahia DC under Professor Hakim, Performs capoeira demonstrations with the group and attends capoeira workshops, Batizados, events in the DMV with other capoeira groups in the community.
