About Afro-Brazilian dance

Is composed of a group of different dances and dramatizations, which present in common the African black root. It was created in Brazil, in different times and regions, this heritage was gaining new meanings and expressions and was mixed with the dances and The indigenous customs in Brazilian lands. Afro Brazilian dance is characterized by the spontaneity of the practitioner having as the main commitment the feeling that move. What are the benefits of doing Afro Dance?

Differential physical exercise, anti-stress therapy, combats shyness, slimming and accelerates metabolism, helps to combat depression, elevates high esteem, exercises body and mind, improves motor coordination. In this cultural exercise, you begin to learn Afro dance and its variants, a unique opportunity to accompany the history of Brazilian culture and also to experience joy.

About Flavia  do Nascimento was born in Belo Horizonte, in Minas Gerais, Flavia has 15 years of dance experience and participates in dance workshops offered in events such as FIT: Festivas de Arte Negra (Black Arts Festival) as well as in the Cultural Centers where she lives. In these workshops, Flavia has taken instruction from well-known dance instructors such as Marlene Silva, Evandro Passos and a very important African dancer, Germanie Acrogry. Nascimento was a part of the Cultural Center Tambolelê where she practiced Afro-dance and Samba, with the instructor Jussara Ferreira  five years.



Samba with Andressa from Sao Paula Brazil, Queen of Carnival is in Washington DC area.

Her technique is based in teaching the art of Samba Step by Step (paso a paso), allowing the student to understand all the movements in general, including  a correct body strength and  posture along with agility and energy. With a few lessons and practice students will understand the whole concept of what is be a “Samba Queen of Carnival”. This makes Andressa’s class unique, there is no other similar class in the DC area.

About the Instructor:

andressa2Andressa started dancing samba at the 8 years old. She was always involved in music (because my parents were musicians) Andressa found in samba a way to express all her emotions,  for her Samba is “truly the happiness of life.” Andressa got her first title of Princess of the Carnival of Santos (São Paulo) in 2011, Musa of Batteria in 2012, Queen of Carnival Santos (São Paulo) in 2013, and Musa of the Samba School Eagle Of Gold 2014 to 2016. She had the opportunity to make Sea Cruises (MSC) teaching samba. Her last job was in Japan in the city of Shinjuku giving class and doing the opening of carnival. Andressa says, “Carnival is my life and I want to with what little they know because I’m always in learning, teaching, and spreading to all where step.”
